Default Just found out my lil boy has addidson!! :(

    hi all
I've just had some news that my boy hurley has addison's diesease and i was just wondering if anyone on here has had or has a dog with addisons and can share there story and give any tip's!
Here's our story... Hurley is my 4 year old rotty cross am staff he has always been a placid dog but then has his crazy times in the past 2 years or so ive noticed a change in him not a dramatic change but just deppressed so i would walk him alot and take him to his fav place which is the beach and he would be happy there but he gets tired really easy and in the last few months his coat has been shedding like crazy... there was hair every where like he would just be standing still and hair would just fall off not in clumps just single strands and his breathe has started to be discusting... so i took him to the vet because i was worried about his breathe they took his blood because they thought he was normal every other way and the blood results came back with some damaged cells... so they took another test to test his biochemisrty and just incase they didnt damage the cells while handling.. but they came back damaged as well and his bio chemistry was perfectly normal so the next step was an ultrasound, when they told me they were concerned it could be CANCER it knocked me around i was distraught i couldnt beleave that my boy could have the c word he was only 3!!! anyway the specialist that they were reffering us to was going to be expensive so we took him to the lort smith so we could pay it off because we knew this would be a long bumpy journey.so they did an ultra sound and took his blood to see if there still damaged.. So the ultra sound came back clear every thing was perfect but his blood still had damaged blood cells so they said take him home and come back a week later and well test his blood cells again.... so we did and they were normal!! we were thinking great his back to normal so we just changed his food to advance the one thats good for his teeth and he was fine!!!
But in the last fortnight he started to get fussy with his food, like one day he didnt eat it all which is not like him so i gave him some of our other dogs food (optimim) which he ate straight away, so i went out and got him diffrent food that the store worker reccomended for his itching (earthborn holistic coastal catch) which he ate for a couple days but then he didnt want any more of it but he was hungry becasue he kept on going to his bowl but didnt eat, so i boiled up some chicken rice and vegies and he only ate the chicken out of it and he was drinking alot of water more than usual and peeing alot and sleeping ALL day i took his temp and it was a bit low so i took him to lort smith again as an emergency becasue he wasn't eating and was really lethargic and they had a good look at him checked everything and they said he was pretty normal apart from his temp being low and his breathing being low and heart rate abit fast. So they took his blood to do another bio chemistry test which came back in 20 mins stating that his sodium is really low and his potassium is really high so they are sure that it was addisons when they told me what it was and how it affected him i was like yep thats him one minute up the next minute down and all the other signs. I was bitter sweet thou becasue i mean im glad we found what was wrong with him but my poor baby is going to have to be on meds for the rest of his life... but then again it's saving his life .. so they kept him on a drip and gave him cortazone. He stayed there last night until they got the results back confirming that it is addisons, so i just got the call and they are starting him on meds but they want to keep him another night because his sodium is still down and potassium still abit high. But i dont mind that his staying another night, i mean his in great hands and im abit scared to take him home actualy, well until we get his meds right becasue apparently now everything is serious like if he vomits i have to take him to the emergency straight away (well thats what i read online) im going to be soo paranoid now lol ahh its going to be stressful but as long as my baby is back to his normal healthy self im not complaining!! And i'd like to thank the lort smith becasue if it weren't for the m my boy would still be suffering or worse dead so thanks heaps guys you are all such a great team!!!

Anyway i Hope to hear from some people
    Thanks for reading

Oh wow poor Hurley! I've never heard of this disease before but I hope he will be okay! Try not to take what dr google says to seriously and just follow your vets advice.

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

Dear me, I can imagine the stress level not to mention the finances. I suspect in a few months it will become your new normal and it will be fine and you will just be glad your pup is with you and this will be a bad memory...sympathies from me

Bless you, this sounds like a difficult thing. I am loving the reaction though! You are right, it is a huge step that you know what is the matter with him and with treatment
I am sure he can live a lovely and long life with your help.
