Yep. My rules when the kids lived at home and their rules once they moved away.
Any animals they wanted I allowed if I was willing to take them on when they moved out and could not have them for any reason.

    3 dogs?

Some councils frown on this too. And SA state law - you can't walk more than four dogs in a public place - not even on lead. They just set a limit. Doesn't matter what size the dogs are or how well behaved.

Mum would not take on my pets, nor will she have to

Some councils only allow 2. Having more may require a permit.

Yes when I lived in suburbia you were allowed 2 but you could apply for a permit to keep 3 which I did at the time. I had to give a reason for keeping 3 dogs and then I then was required to have written permission from 3 neigbours. Then once that was done a ranger came round to check that the place was securely fenced and that the dogs had shelter and water and that I had suitable conditions in which to keep 3 dogs. Then when all the paperwork was in place I could have 3 dogs.

To be honest I was more than happy with 2 dogs at the time, but due to unforseen circumstances I ended up with a third.

Three dogs - three times as expensive (vaccinations, worming, flea control and council rego for starters).

And three times as hard to get rental accommodation. This seems to be the number one reason for dumping dogs on parents or gum tree or unsuspecting friends - you do have to take it seriously. Dogs are around a 15 year commitment give or take.

And for some people - three times as hard to manage.

Your Mum is against your dog making puppies - but you're considering getting around this just by adopting more dogs without breeding them? And my brother and my sister both dumped their dog on my mum. My sister permanently but my brother - just when he wanted a holiday... Mum was not happy when I said I was getting a dog - her experience was pretty consistent. But I can afford boarding the dog.

xx_sheena_xx- 'What are you really trying to achieve here ?

Now you want 3 dogs ?

What - just because your mum said that you had to de-sex the one you have being going on about for sooooo long here !!!!!

I am really pleased that you - maybe have listened to your mum's wishes - and will get the dog de-sexed ! But this is only a forum - and - really we can all say what we like !!!!!!

So now - you need another one !!!!!!!!

As far as I am concerned with what you have written here - your mum, I feel is being more than accommodating with you than what others would be - but as others have said or intimated - I really believe that you really need to work out what you would like to do - but with a lot of consideration about other people in your life - namely your mum !

well, at least your mum lets you have a dog sheena

my parents wont let me have one at moment.
or else i would. even tho I'm over 25 and responsible
i do have option to just get one and to hell with them.
or listen to them for awhile and try work it over.
or just listen blindly to others and cut his nuts off.
even tho the dog i grew up with only got one bitch in his life and fathered only one pup, (was a pure bred G Shep, older style, not banana back like ones these days)
he was entire his entire life, but was a great dog and never had any problems.

its all down to what you think would make you dad happy or your mum, remembering earlyer posts.
but i guess to me having a dog can be a real test of life, you have to do right by them, for them to do right by you sometimes....
