dont listen to the desexing people if you dont want to sheena, stand ya ground.
most people who tell you to desex have there own agenda or are breeders who dont want ppl getting in the way of there business profit.

if ppl cant see you are atleast trying to be responcible and make him sterile without as much of a dramatic impact on natural behaviours and instincts then just ignore them.
a wise woman told me once, its learning to do ya own thing and to hell with what others think.
because the natural way of life is to get ahead of others and slow the others down to become higher in standing.

That is a huge generalisation. A decent debate is how you learn things that you might not have known before. It is wise to listen and learn and then come your own informed decision. I desex my dogs and I have no agenda, just what I have learnt and lost over the last 40 years of my family owning many dogs - working dogs, pets and trialing dogs. My boys I do once they have done growing around 20 months and never had a problem with any of them, ever.

If Sheena wants to vasectomise I think we have acknowledged she is thinking responsibly. However like with humans you do have to have follow up tests on a sperm sample to make sure the surgery was successful. Not sure how you do that for a dog. LOL

The vets here will not do a vasectomy at all, aparently the only reason people here even desex their males is so that they don't act like males :/

I know that vasectomys are not always sucessful, you have to go back after about 3 weeks and the vet has to ejeculate the dog and see if there is any sperm in it

My male Bandit (nearly 3 now) is not desexed. More due to my lazyness. It does worry me about testicular cancer as my last blue heeler had it.
I have the 3 females desexed though and as they are confined to a large area, we are on a farm, he can't get any bitch in pup.
All the male dogs I have had desexed in the last 30 years had no changes of behaviour but again I had no problems with their behaviour.

I didn't even know they did such things on dogs! Lol I also don't really see the point... You either want him entire or you don't. Harley was done around 1 and a half years old and we didn't have any change in behavior. He still pees on everything, still territorial, is still just a stinky boy he was never going to use them and I would rather he didn't try and escape either.

But eeeh, he's your dog to do with as you chose. If its what you want try and find a vet that will do it and make sure it's successful! My little sister is 7 months pregnant to a guy who had the snip

honestly, if you have to desex a dog, it just prove you dont realy care for dogs, because you are part of movement to make them extinct
if everyone did this to all the dogs in the world, what would be left.

because the main pushers for desexing, are either people who aren't responsible to own a dog in first place if they have to resort to cutting them up, and stopping them from breeding, a good responsible owner has a good understanding with there dog, that they wont just take a bitch without the ok.
and i have seen this in practice in real life at breeders who i would call a real breeder.
not some fake breeder who just thinks they are, and has dogs that would mount anything that moves and has no respect for there owner or chain of command.
i have seen dogs that would look at there owner for the ok, and if owner says no, will just ignore the bitch entirely.
and if the bitch is getting to for the dog and hassling to much, its time out in crate,

worst kinds of breeders are ones that push for desexing.
they say they want to improve the breed, yet they dont want anyone else breeding, so take advantage of others who have no clue, spin a heap of BS and trick them into cutting up there pooch.
honestly, i'd say, if you have desexed more than 3 dogs, you shouldn't own one, because you obviously have no understanding or trust for the dog or bitch, or they just have no respect for you for some reason.
yeah like i'm gona respect the person who wants to kill off my entire race buy cutting there balls or insides out.....

WTF did I just read? Wow so in your eyes I am one dog being desexed away from being an unworthy dog owner! everyone had different reasons for desexing. Me because it breaks my heart to see all of the unwanted dogs that get put to sleep day in day out due to OVERBREEDING. The rate we are going if people continue to breed as they do we will have an oversupply of dogs... Well we actually already do.

well, that's because there's to many breeders like a certain breeder who basically told me she would sell a pup to anyone, before mating 3 of her own bitches at once with her own studs and basically landing 18 puppys on ground at once, oh BTW shes a well know registered breeder.
to top it off, she was going to fly off to the US to look at Stud dogs and leave a 23year old to dog sit for her, who she taught nothing too about dogs and basically manipulated.
lucky he backed out before. so she went on trip and dumped on another friend who owns same breed for a month to sell pups for her while she went off hunting for studs.
thats the class of breeder that seems to be in charge these days.
