    Smile Mobile Dog Wash

    Hi,

I'm not sure where this thread should go but anyway...

I'm new on this forum, I'm an owner of a 6 yr old Border Collie/Blue heeler and am starting my own mobile dog wash from scratch.

I was wondering if there was any mobile dog washers on this forum who could give me some pointers such as how to get my customer base eg: flyer drop off's.

Thanks for any light you may shine.

    Hi splishsplosh87,

I don't have my own dog wash, but have a degree in business marketing and have worked in both a service and manufacturing capacity. My best tip is be creative and network. Word of mouth for a small business is going to be your reputation. Gather a small group of customers, keep them coming back to you. Explain the benefits of washing your dog on a regular basis and any advantages.

    Yellow pages
    Flyers
    Networking - Friends
    Networking - Dog parks
    Simple website
Networking through local retailers - Business card/ flyer in petshops
    local ads in paper

I am sure there is many more.

I used to do this for a job..I loved it! Word easily gets about if you are friendly, prompt, great with their dogs

One thing I did that was really successful.....I offered all the ppl in my street 1/2 price on a Sun morning at my house. And I also offered my local dog obedience club 1/2 price at the club grounds on a certain day too.

    Such great suggestions

Word of mouth is very powerful and free marketing

I would also really promote the health benefits of a well groomed dog and the great convienience of a mobile groomer who comes to you.

Drop a bunch of flyers off at your local pound or shelter....and if possible offer a discount for all adopted pound pets! Lots of people, esspecially vets offer a discount for pound babes and the community loves the support.
Your local shelter should be happy to assist you in promotion as adopting families have an opportunity to benefit.

Good luck and let us know how you get along!

    Nic

I had my own dog wash for several years and thoroughly enjoyed it. I started by putting flyers in the neighbourhood letterboxes, cards in shopping centres, vets, petshops etc, and an ad in the local community paper. I found it only possible to work within a 15 minute travelling time from home, otherwise all your profit goes in petrol and wasted time. I found most of my regular customers told their friends and family and the numbers added up quickly. I offered discount for several dogs at one address, and often had a dog washing session for a whole street. I also did a Pet Fair offering half price washes (captive audience!!) and got quite a few bookings from that.
Good luck with your new venture!

Possibly network with some breeders, you may beable to wash several of thier dogs, or have them refer some local customers your way when they sell a puppy, to a customer who lives locally to you.
