    Default Filthy Ears?

How should i clean the inside of Bernie's ears?
How often can i do this without upsetting the natural balance of skin oils etc
He gets very dirty, a lot. GSD long haired, lives rurally, rarely sees bitchumen sorta hound, more your dust bath, swamp swimmer.

What I do is soak a makeup removal pad in diluted malaseb shampoo and wipe around the inside of the ear, really only after she has been swimming in the dam or if the ears start smellng a bit 'yeasty' or if she's been scratching at them excessivly. maybe 2-3 times a month on average they get a wipe out. Its very humid here.

I have to clean Gemma's ears weekly as she doesn't have much airflow to her ears..

I use the same product as above, diluted down or Epi-Otic if I'm doing a rush groom and sometimes an ear powder for when she's been swimming, which is a lot.

I also use make up remover swabs. Wrap one around your finger.

If you have no ear cleaning solutions, just use clean luke-warm water or saline solution.

Just a note, be sparing with ear cleaners, depending on what brand they are. Some of them can be very harsh to a GSD's ears.

Wow, such practical advice, the solution, the cloth, the frequency, and the caution. This is why i hang around here.

Ive just done this. He had been shaking his ears. I dont see very well, so got my daughter to check for mites, none.
Gave em the clean out. He's cool with me doing it, as ive been inneffectively practicing with a wet wipe. Oops! obviously way too astringent. Poor Bernie.
Its a good job our dogs are forgiving

    They look grand. EXCEPT.....

He's been branded. That awful "Jewish Cross" type tatoo they disfigure my dog with to show he's not an entire male. (shhh, he's still not noticed we had his boy bits removed whilst he took a nap at the vets).

Ugly tat. But lovely clean ears. Thanks folks.

I use ear and wound wash from rufus and coco along with cotton make up pads, and it works a treat!
