Default You've Got to Be Effing Kidding Me!!!

    Im so friggen angry!

As some will know we had a major flea infestation. Absolutely terrible.
Lady's hair had grown back, her scabs had dissapeared, back to normal.
Less than 4 weeks later, I notice a flea on Roly. I wait another 4 days, so I can give them their Frontline drops. I sweep, vaccum and clean their beds.
2 days after their drops, STILL scratching
I flea washed Lady about 20 minutes ago, and she hasn't stopped itching!!!!!!
She's still wet ffs!! How can she possible be scratching!?
I washed and dryed her in the laundry, open the door, come over to the computer, and less than a minutes after walking out the laundry she started her scratch-a-thon.
    Im so frustrated!!!

I'd possibly be applying every two weeks as though you have ticks not fleas.

I have to treat for ticks so harshly that no flea can survive here without a gas mask.

when we bought here the people before us didn't want fences (restriced their view), so they had converted the old greenhouse into a dog run. We had to use this when we first moved in until the fences went up and the dogs got a few fleas, but after a very short time they had disappeared. At the same time we also paved the dirt floor of the dog run & gave it a good spray.

Areas like under the house and things like that need to be treated.

    Thanks MAC. I will.

DA, the most annoying part? 0. I didn't see any fleas while washing.
I only saw the 1 flea on Roly last week and the scratching on both dogs. Every time I go through with my hands, I don't see anything.
I considered maybe theres something else causing the itching, but I can't think of anything.

hence my question - if she is scrathcing from fleas, all it takes is one sometimes if she has major flea allergy, but no, i don't for the life of me think Lades scratching is from fleas.

Are you washing her in any mediacted shampoo manufactured specifically to relive skin allergy/irritation/dermatitis and the myraid of things that would cause this?

If my dog had a skin irritation or allergy, then washing him/her in flea wash would probably dirve that dog bonkers till it was scratching it's skin red raw!

To elaborate, you've just washed her thoroughly yes? Can't find a darned flea in the water or on her, right? No flea signs in her coat or on her skin right?

But she's scratching like mad. Find something quick to relieve the damage that has just been done from the flea-wash IYKWIM??? Like Aloveen or anything with a soothing oatmeal base. Then consider getting your vet to test a skin scraping.

I washed her in Purina Total Care Flea Control Shampoo. "soothes irritated skin"

I don't know what allergy it would be, absolutely nothing has changed.

A skin scraping could help to ascertain if she has developed an allergy or even has a condition or something in her skin make-up causing this issue for her.

Has your boss advised upping her daily omega supplements for a period of time to help the situation? i would certainly be upping it to a fair degree, Myf, if it was me.

GSDs are unfortunately pre-disposed to skin conditions and allergies. Some can go through their lives with no issues, but it is a pre-disposition that my particular breed are reknown for, and I have spend decades investigating and learning about their skin structure and what teeny little things can set them off. Just like ppl, all breeds of dogs can develop an allergy or reaction for want of a better description to almost anything out of the blue. Maybe the flea infestation is what set all this off a while ago, but I do think there's another underlying cause Myf.

Something else is affecting Lades, I'm almost certain of it. The ruddy hard part of course is figuring out what it is. Sigh.

    Thanks DA.

Yeah I was adding canola oil to her food but stopped about 2 weeks ago.

She's actually going into the vet in a couple of weeks to have a growth in her mouth operated on, so i'll get her checked out then. In the meantime, I can ask on Monday at work.
Actually, she hasn't been itching for the last 10 minutes now that I think about it....
