Thread: Anyone Feeding Canidae?

    Default Anyone Feeding Canidae?

    Hi,
I'm new here, I have a 15 week old Schnoodle who is adorable
I currently feed him a Raw B.A.R.F diet consisting of Canine Country Combo White, Lamb Flaps, Chix Necks. I'm about to start him on some kibble as well, for a few reasons. But the main being that when we go away, and either my parents or the kennel look after him, I don't have ask them to thaw, portion his fresh RAW or worry about germs etc.

So, I have done much (and I mean MUCH) research about kibble and I have decided to try him on Canidae Grain Free ALS.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this food? I has also thought about the Salmon version.

I wanted a grain, wheat free kibble. The only ones I found were EVO, Artemis Maximal, Canidae Grain Free and I also looked at Eagle Pack.

I need a kibble high is Omega 3, 6 oils for his coat, as he is prone to getting dry flakey skin.

So I guess my last question is, does anyone used any other Grain Free food, that is good for coats?

Thanks heaps, and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Nope sorry - I feed Artemis and it's been great so far, but that's the grainy version. Not sure I've heard of Canidae.

I have used Artemis and Eagle Pack/Holistic Select, but not grain free versions. i found both to be very good.

I could be totally wrong, but I have read that some of the grain free food is not very good for a growing dog because is has too much protein which can be bad for their kidneys

dogs are omnivorous so do need some veggie material as well. Don't know what the Canine Country Combo White is, may have some in it?

eta...Shar Pei's needs lots of omega too. We add tuna and sardines to their food, which you could try as well to see if that helps your pup's skin. We are currently feed Holistic Select Sardines Anchovies and Salmon which seems to be doing good.

    Thanks heaps everyone.
Cat, the combo white is a pre made barf, that has chix, turkey, duck and fish, with veges, fruit, egg, omega 3 6 9, yoghurt, flaxseed and garlic (I think that is right). I almost bought a bag of the holistic Sardine, Anchovy and Salmon, it looked really good, but the used by date wasn't that good. I'm glad to hear you like it though, I might try and find a different bag.
The Canidae has 36% or 40% (depending which one) protein, which I thought would be too high, but then I thought if it wasn't his only means of food, it might be o.k. I don't know. I just though if I could get it at the same price, delivered as the Holistic Select one, but without the grains, it would be better, IYKWIM. But is it too high in protein and fat??? Thats the thing that bothers me.

I feed nutro natural choice but if that wasn't working out, I might switch to Artemis.

I don't understand why you didn't put the same research into what kind of dog to get and where to get it (or not get it).

These two american sites will help you work out what to look for on the ingredients list.
The Dog Food Project - How does your Dog Food Brand compare?

Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble

The second one has reviews of canidae (that name looks so much like the name of an unpleasant human disease) - I think from the one I read, they like Artemis better.

Bingo, someone just couldn't help themselves. Thanks for that, even though I asked if you could keep it to the dog food. I decided to get a schnoodle of any other breed, yes I do call it a breed, it's a cross breed and yes even over Pure Breads. I have my reasons for my decision, that I wish not to share (mainly because I choose not to waste my time), and you have yours, that I'm sure you have told many many times and probably will again here, because after all because you have a pure bred you know all, right.
Thanks though for your input about the topic at hand. Greatly appreciated.

Nope I've got a bitza from the pound.

Bread is what I toast for breakfast - sorry I really couldn't resist that one.

This is a forum - you can't control what other people choose to post, just like I can't control what kind of dog you choose to get.
