OH picked up some chicken and vegie meatball pet food things in the supermarket and said here, we should get these for Poppy!

Well off I went with the preservative and cost rant! It was no more than 500grams of pet food for $5 AND it lasted a week in the fridge according to the label! He quickly backed down! I am pretty sure the mince I bought (minced chicken carceses) would of been at least 3kg and it was just under $3!

Will just remember to portion off bigger quantities next time as Angela advised that Poppy does need a little more food (see related thread) so thats why I have been defrosting 2 bags some nights as some of the portions are no more than 2teaspoons worth!

I'll show you on the weekend how much Batty gets I have lots still portioned off. I give him the same amount as the biscuits, so he gets one heaped handful of biscuits and one heaped handful of meat.

ETA he does run around heaps too though, so just experiment and see how she goes

Thanks! I was thinking maybe I need to increase breakfast too. Give her 1/3 of a cup and then another half. Just because I wonder if taking her for our little walk everyday will mean she is burning more energy? Does that make sense?

I don't want the bit extra I'm giving her at dinner to be burnt off on our walk and then see no difference in her weight?

Makes perfect sense Look, even if she does get a little pudgy that's ok, as I said to you when you were here, a tad over is ok (not obese though - I know you know the difference!) when they are so young, just start to be a lot more stringent with it when she hits around 6-8 months. If she does put on a little much chances are it will be absorbed in a growth spurt. TBH She only needs a tiny bit of extra weight, I'd hazard a guess at maybe 800gm - 1kg so don't be too worried

Ok! Thanks AGB! Maybe I will increase the dry food to 1/2 a cup at both meals + mince at dinner? Does that sound ok? Not too much of an increase?

I was so worried about feeding her too much and making her a fatty after reading online how easily cavy's put on weight and how this can contribute to their heart issues. I didnt realise that it only was a worry after they get a bit older! So thanks again for all the advice! You have truly been SOOOO helpful!!!

Well, Charlie and Bella just had dinner! Raw chicken mince (human grade, of course), silverbeet, cos lettuce, carrot (all chopped so fine they were almost mush) and a teaspoon of natural yoghurt.

    And the verdict....

They LOVED it!! Both bowls completely licked clean!!! This is awesome - Bella can sometimes be a bit of a fuss bum and she jumped on it!!

I think it's going to take me some time to get the amounts right though.

And, another plus - hubby and I had silverbeet with our dinner too for the first time in.... oh I can't remember! Haha!

I gave them eagle pack for breakfast. Put the bowls on the floor, bella looks at it, then turns around and looks at me as if to say "are you kidding me?! I have to eat that stuff still?" haha

Thank you sooo much for all your help cleasanta!!
