It's a bit of a catch 22 situation IMO. Ruby is medically okay?

I've had dogs who will eat themselves silly no matter what they've been fed, and I've had dogs that will refuse food until they look chronically ill. It's a hard one.
When we got Mya I thought, being a stray and surviving on so little food for so long she would eat anything but I guess she sort of proves your point. I really think she would starve rather than eat the stuff she doesn't want to.

The only raw meat she has really enjoyed so far has been a lamb offcut but even that she wouldn't touch until I had cut it up into bit sizes. Stoopid dog. If I cook other meat she will eat it but I know it's not as good for them as raw.

I bought some of the Dr Billinghurst barf patties (cheating I know ), she turned her nose up at that, mind you even Jenna struggled to eat it and she will usually eat anything.

The 2 things I have found she loves is Sardines, which is great, and Nature's gift wet food, not so great. I really wanted to avoid commercial food but I guess, especially at the moment, if she'll eat it I'll give it. At least it is one of the better tinned foods.

As is often said on here, whatever works for you and your dog. If they will not eat an exclusive raw diet I don't think it is the end of the world. Lots of dogs live on a commercial diet and if Ruby is getting at least some raw in her diet then that is better than nothing. Don't beat yourself up if you have to go back to some commercial food.
I often think the whole topic of raw versus commercial, or tinned versus dry food gets out of hand.
The highlighted part of your post TKay is exactly what I believe everything comes down to.
Without knowing the answer, I would hazard a fair guess that throughtout this country more dogs are fed a commercial diet (whatever that may be) more so than those who feed a raw diet.
As I've mentioned before, some vets even will advocate a raw diet, and a lot of them will advocate the opposite.
Jeez, I know ppl who feed their dogs stews and table-leftovers. I wouldn't but gotta admit their dogs are strong, fit and darned healthy.
Everything has it's pros and cons, and what is right for one does not mean it is always right for another.

Perfect example, Inca is ill. Am I feeding her chicken pieces to rip apart and meat ATM? Of course not. I am trying to feed her roast cooked chicken, pasta, rice, any bland foods that won't upset her tummy ATM. She won't be going back to her usual diet until this is fixed. Things change with our dogs at times and we change with them to accomodate that.

I am sure Ruby is so stubborn she would rather starve herself than eat what she doesn't like. Unfortunately...she can not live off chicken necks. She will eat human foods...chicken necks...potato chips...just NOT her mince/vegie/supplement mix. She will not TOUCH kibble....too posh for that! #$%^&%^%$

    yep...didn't work...will try tonight again...sigh

When I think back and it might be a coincidence...but she has been doing this ever since she almost choked on a hard bone in a carcass. She was freaking out...I was freaking out mate...scary stuff! She couldn't breathe and I tried 3 times to get the bone up...3rd time she gagged and coughed it up....sigh

Surely she can not survive on chicken necks and minced meats???? She needs her vitamins and minerals too

she sounds like a yoyo dieter lol

prehaps she gets bored of her diets and since she can't go and get her own food she will just wait till you give in?
I guess we will see who wins the battle of stuborness, Staffy V Human.
