    Default Feeding Dogs?

even tho she's providing a diet sheet, i've asked the breeder what food she feeds the puppy we're getting, so that we could go buy it before the day comes to go pick him up from the airport. Anyways, she doesn't feed them any brand foods, she feeds them a little wheat bix with a little milk in the mornings, puppt bickies during the day, and mince or finely chopped meat or chicken necks at night. So i was thinking of continuing feeding him that as its better. How long do i need to feed him twice a day for? also, can i add veggies and maybe rice to his dinner? also with my older dog, i wanted to give him a diet like this aswell, instead of buying dog rolls. a friend said raw mince, chicken necks and a cracked egg is a healthy meal for dogs but i'd like to add veggies and rice too. and in his bowl i also put a little of dry dog food, does he need that and can the puppy have those too? oh also, with the wheat bix, why would she feed them that and does it need to be cows milk or can it be whatever milk?

I don't understand the milk part...dogs are lactose intolerant!

You should feed what you are comfortable feeding If you want to make the food yourself...make sure you get the balance right eg % of protein, carbs, fat, fibre, vitamins and minerals.

When we got our staffy girl at 8 weeks...they gave us this container with this mixed slop of food...it was obvious that most of it was water...not exactly what she needed, so I changed her diet to one I was happy with

I would feed my Rottweilers mixed frozen or fresh vegies rice and chicken or chicken stock. I would cook it all together and they loved it. Rice is very good for their coat. Our Rotties coats were so shiny and healthy.

Somethimes I would mix dry dogfood through it was well. Get them using their teeth and briskit bones for healthy teeth & gums.

I forgot to add that we feed our dogs twice a day. Diesel is 12 months old and Gypsy is 6 months old. They both get about 1 1/2 cups of dry food twice a day (Gypsy a little less as she is younger).

To be completely honest organicsab, it looks to me like this breeder is a bit all over the place diet-wise.

Wheat bix and milk is an age-old diet.
Dry dog biscuits is the modern commercial food.
Yet mince/chicken is a natural food diet.

    Get what I mean?

well i'm feeding him 1/2 a weet bix with a little milk in the mornings and he's loving that. Then later on a bit of dry food made for puppies, Supercoat, he likes that one and I feed him at night a little dry food with this mince for dogs/puppies/cats/kittens with half a chicken neck. I don't know if i'm feeding him enough. The breeder said she'd sent a diet sheet whatever that is but she must have forgot or something. And i emailed her thanking her agian for everything and included a couple of photos of Tedd here (which i'll post soon in the forum) but never heard back. But we thought we'd take him to the vets today for a check up and maybe some advice, would that be a good idea?

With my older dog i've started feeding him dry food as usual and the same mince the puppy gets and i added a raw egg but i dont think he liked it much but ate it anyways and i'll start adding veggies and rice too to both their food.

Is that puppy milk, because dogs are lactose intolerant!

I would just get puppy milk if you must give it...you can buy it at Coles and Woolies. But seriously...there is not reason for feeding him weetbix! He would do great on his puppy food
