I lived in victoria for almost 5 years, back in 2002-2007ish and had never heard of it. I had Attila who was a black blue heeler x so it must be a recent law?

QLD Legislation changed in September 2010, specifically Pitbull's (APBT) are still a restricted breed BUT the legislation does not count a crossbreed as a member of a breed. So a Pitbull X is essentially NOT restricted. Seeing as there is no such thing as an APBT in Australia all Pitbulls are crosses. The legislation also states that an Amstaff is not an APBT and vica versa but that particular clause will only protect a dog that has papers really.

Council law is a bit different, each council has their own restrications and in most council areas Pitbulls and Crosses are banned BUT seeing as that goes against state law I doubt it would hold up in court, plus due to a lot of court cases here and council losing, not many council's in QLD are game enough to do anything anymore and you have a better chance of winning due to previous precedents that have been set.

In the end if you ever find yourself in trouble, let me know and I can put you onto people who can help with all the info you need.

TBH OM - Oskar looks more Ridgeback to me and he looks similar to my Ridgie X. Thats not to say he has no Amstaff just that he prossibly has some Ridgie as well and to me that is what he looks more like. I don't think you have anything to worry about and so long as you are responsible you should be fine.

The law in Victoria was bought in last year (September 30th) after the death of Ayon Chol.

See this is what I mean - when people say that the Victorian dog owners have had plenty of warning about this BSL law, and really - most of them have NFI. They think if they don't own a pitbull, they're safe and tune it out I think. But their dog is not safe from this law.
