NOTHING! It will not change a damn thing about dog attacks they will still happen because there are still idiots out there who breed dogs for a little extra cash and don't care about who the dog goes to and what kind of life it might be subjected to. I want to know how the hell did that little girl get killed by another family's dog? Why wasn't someone there to protect her and control the dog? What kind of life did the dog have before it attacked? When a human murders somebody they are given a chance at rehabilitation, but when it's a dog it's PTS. Why is my life more valuable than my dog's?
I hate this country. Passing this crap is like saying that all black men rape white women so we should castrate ALL black men. This will not solve the problem Breed Specific Legislation DOES NOT WORK dog owners need to be educated in controlling powerful breeds.
From what I can understand the dog that is the center of this was a dog from across the road.
Some how it got inside the house where the little girl was along with her cousin and I think her mother.
So it wasn't thier family pet but someone from across the road.
This is all I know about it.

And to expand on the council Rangers coming in and telling other that this is a Pitbull I would not trust the ones here who are incharge of the pound.
They put dogs on the web site totally wrong.
I have seen them call a Labrodor a Kelpie cross.
So I would not trust them to know a shoe from a thong.

I understand what you are saying but do not blame the little girl or her family for what happened. The dog followed an adult into the house as the adult tried to run away from the dog because it was charging her. There were several adults in the house during the attack, several adults who tried to stop the dog from killing her, people who also ended up with nasty injuries. Please make sure you do your research before you start ranting on. A little girl is dead and her family are devastated. A mother saw her daughter mauled to death. Think before you talk.

I also believe the dog should have been PTS, any dog who attacks and certainly any dog that is involved in a death should be PTS no question. But they should definitely do proper necropsy's on the dog and research the dogs life to really get an idea of why the dog acted like it did. You cannot compare humans to dogs, it is just a comparison that will never work. To keep a dog who has killed a person is a huge responsibility, not many people would be willing to take on that responsibility (and you couldn't leave the dog with the owner). Although I strongly believe in the death penalty for humans as well because some of the things that people do to other people are beyond horrific.

I'll sit back and watch for the changes to legislation to emerge. I'd rather waste my time ensuring I know the facts than arguing here about the absurdity of claims made. That saying 'don't believe everything you read on the itnernet' applies so much here.

I find it alarming even that people are talking like BSL has just been introduced in Australia.

Its not that people think it has just been introduced Anne it is the fact that now Victorian Government is going to take it very seriously. They are actually going to do something about it and lots of dogs will die.

A crackdown like this happened in QLD a few years back, thousands of dogs were killed.

Now you're confusing me. If parliament are sitting tomorrow, how can it be gazetted tomorrow? The calendar shows the LA only, sit tomorrow.

Hansard is merely the verbatim reporting record of a parliamentary sitting for those who don't know.
