Default My First Pitty Ruined Everything!!!!

My first Pit Bull ruined the whole reputation that expert BYB's had worked so hard to earn over the last 20 or 30 years!!!

    I was very dissappointed indeed.

she was useless as a guard dog - whoever heard of a friendly pit bull?

she never even growled at anyone, or locked her jaw on to another dog - how wierd is that?

she was so disobediant - every night at bed time, I specifically instructed her to sleep at the foot of my bed, yet every morning she would be under the cover as close to my face as possible - I'm damn lucky she didn't attack me in my sleep, I might not have been here to warn you about this.

one time when I was over at a mates house she jumped the back fence, obviously so she could go and terrorize the nieghborhood, so I ran out the front door after her, but the strange thing was, she was sitting on front step waiting for me, wagging her tail so hard her bottom was going to fall off.

she also had this awful habit of licking kids faces until they fell down in hysterics - I could hardely bare to watch!

and you know what? she never did snap like they are meant to - I could never figure out why????

Please, everybody, listen to my warning.

If you want a mean, vicious, scary dog, do not, I repeat, DO NOT get an American Pit Bull Terrier

I have known exactly 2 pitbulls in my life - they are not so common where I live. One was exactly as you described - a totally fab dog and totaly trustworthy and I used to look after her when her owners went away.

The other, her cousin, was downright scary and was finally euthaniased after attacking and severely biting a person passing the front yard of where she lived. I would say part of it was to do with the owners who really didnt have a clue.

Same as with any other dog there are stable and unsound temepraments and good and bad owners. I am always wary of potentially powerful dogs untill I have been introduced and know more about them from their owners. I also keep my eye on those small terrierists.

Sounded like a very placid dog mate.

I very rarely go into threads about BSL or Pitties because they tend to get a bit (just a bit - LOL) heated. However, I needed to know what your Pitty had ruined.

Reputation ruined indeed. A long time ago, I was a volunteer dog walker at a pound. The dogs I would invariably fall head over heals in love with were the Pitbulls or crosses thereof. Naturally, you have to be careful of strong breeds, but generally the only thing you had to be frightened of was their tails - wagging so hard they could be almost lethal.
