Thread: Papers?

  1. #1

    Default Papers?

Could someone please explain 'papers' to me?
I have a vague idea but would like some clarification.

    - What is the relevance of them?
    - How do people/ dogs get them or achieve them?
    - What do they achieve or prevent?
    - Can they be falsified? How do I know they are legitimate?
    - Can only purebreds have papers?

As I am considering purchasing an American Staffy, i believe these are important?

    Thanks,
    Laura Kate

    - What is the relevance of them? -
They will save your dogs life if we are talking Amstaffs here.A papered Amstaff is a legal breed of dog you can own freely anywhere in Australia. You will be able to show if you wish and dog is of standard.

    - How do people/ dogs get them or achieve them?
You buy strictly from an ANKC registered breeder .

    - What do they achieve or prevent?
They can be the difference between life and death.

    - Can they be falsified? How do I know they are legitimate?
They can be falsified and you must - I repeat- you must do your homework when researching your breeders. Ask other owners of dogs from the smae kennel, attend shows even etc etc....usually online research will be enough to alert you to a good ethical breeder or someone to steer clear of.

    - Can only purebreds have papers?
Yes. And Yes. Only purebred Amstaffs can have ANKC papers.

Very much so and great work for being so very thorough!!

    Thanks,
    Laura Kate
    OK

Papers are ANKC papers.Papers registered to a breeders litter etc to prove they are a legitimate Australian National Kennel Council bred animal.

    Thanks!
    It's a big decision, getting a dog.
I don't want to make a mistake that someone else, the dog or myself will suffer from later down the track.

    Now the breeder research begins!

    Cheers

hey choppa chop i have a question for you, i have an american staffy from a breeder called andonas kennels. i bought a male dog named wanted off him about 2.5 years ago, although i never got papers with him and i just forgot to get papers off him at the time. is it still ok for me to ask him for the papers? if not is it still ok to get it off him in anyway?

You can ask, but with Andonas I doubt you will get them, they have a bit of a 'reputation' for being dodgy.

I am under the understanding Wanted if the same dog I think it is has no papers to get.
But I'd love to hear how you go with it?

It most certainly is and I would most certainly would be asking , no not asking, demanding them..
A Registered Breeder must register/record every single pup born.

Out of curiosity, did you obtain him on a Limited or Full Register ?

It is especially easy to back-track, because the puppies should be microchipped so no mistakes can happen.

Yep right dog, I do not beleive he has papers but I may be wrong.
If he said he was reg tell him you need to prove Wanted is not a pitty & need his paperwork to do this.
Let us know what he says.............
