aaahhh Thanks Staffwild,I didnt realise the Regs were quite so recent for SA, Still, this dog should still of been born after the Regs were brought in therefor registered.

NVD,simply tell the idiot you need his papers in case you are ever questioned about his breeding by a Ranger. If a Ranger decides your boy looks like a Pit ( which no doubt he probably does) then at the moment you dont have a leg to stand on .
If you have his papers then there is no drama.

And Newf Andonas Kennels - American Staffordshire Terrier

    mmmm hold up.
This is now on Wanteds page ; Here is a little story - We sold this dog as a young puppy to one of our clients and he refused to pay for the shipping cost $150! And we returned his money and we kept Wanted as a stud. I will leave the judgment to you, I thought he was Wanted but not from that person.

    Is that you ?

Also it seems that there another dog on the site named Wanted but is the black and white you speak of. Could you check your PM's please

    That's the other thread.

    http://www.dogforum.com.au/breeders-...s-kennels.html

Your chances of getting the papers that prove your dog's breed are tiny.

The reason you want the ANKC breed papers is so you can prove your dog is an AmStaff and not a Pitbull. Because Pitbulls are on the restricted breed list ie "BSL" (Breed Specific Legislation) - which means - in SA, you can't breed or sell them or give them away and you have to keep them in an escape proof cage at home and muzzled when out.

The alternative is - to get a DNA test which will almost certianly say your dog is mostly something else (ie not pitbull), because there really are so few true American PitBull Terriers in Australia. It may say something really odd like "significant Chihuahua", but that will protect you from the BSL and your local council.

Meantime - tell everybody your dog is a boxer X (cos that's a "safe dog" as far as the law goes), and never let it bite anything ever.

Most council rangers cannot tell what breed a dog is by looking at it. So don't let them guess wrong.
Pet Pitbull - Find the Pit Bull

SA is not quite as bad as QLD and NSW yet when it comes to rangers making snap decisions that threaten instant death for the dog. Ie if it is identified as dangerous or a dangerous breed - they can PTS immediately without asking anybody (I think ie if they think it's safer to put the dog down than catch/hold it, they will.)

It's really sad you bought a dog from that place and extra sad you didn't follow up about breed papers years ago.

Hya the problem is that he is already chipped and registered as an Amstaff.
Too late to be calling him anything else if speaking to a Ranger.

If Theo is such a decent bloke, such a freindly guy....then I'm sure he'll do the right thing by you

I just wouldnt be holding my breath

And as of 2010 , the Regs for SA are :
Restrictions for the 6 prescribed breeds (pit bull terriers, American pit bull terriers, Japanese tosas, Argentinean fighting dogs (dogo Argentino), Brazilian fighting dogs (fila Brasileiro) and the Perro de Presa Canario or Presa canario), must be desexed, muzzled in public, not allowed to be sold or given away.
