ive seem many a jeep take on the gib river road, and gun barrel can be done by anyone in a rav 4...... maybe not a rav, but oyu get the idea.... the sooner these old shops realise the world is bigger than toyota and nissan the better.......

It's all good until something breaks. And then you need parts. I know some people who took two RAV4s up the Stuart highway - on the bitumen. When they stopped, at Katherine or thereabouts, one of the RAV4 caught fire. The Toyota dealer in ACT offered to send then another one but they really were not keen. Turned out there was a problem with fuel lines not attached securely... Yikes.

Seen some amazing fixes on things like daihatsus - what a station hand can do with fencing wire... they liked the light 4WD cos they didn't sink in the mud like the big 4WD will. Not that it rained often enough for that to be a serious concern.

I heard the Great W ally 4WDs had to be recalled - asbestos brakes.

lol...... yes i know jeeps kick arse......

but its an old way of thinking... toyota or nothing.......

toyota have gone away from the real 4wd with the 200 series, it has an independant front end.... and now nissan has done the same....

jeep are the only manufacturer keeping true to its roots.... a live axle 4wd..... yes you dont get the same level of comfort... but if i wanted a comfy car id have got a bmw.

the 70 series cruiser is still live and both ends, and it does well.... BUT the new 4.5 turbo desiel v8 has more computer trickery than the ipad....... its an old mindset that you need to have a toyota badge on the front and a turbo desiel badge on the back to go outback.......

Id take on any road rego'd car.............. sean, you keen? :P

Yes I dunno what I'm going to do when the 100 series std model diesel dies. I'm thinking hilux turbo diesel maybe. Tho I was impressed with a 180 litre in duel fuel tanks diesel prado. Or I might have to get something second hand.

I liked the old WWII jeeps. One of my uncles had one of those on the farm. Comfy it was not. But it was fun.

I only miss 4x4ing a bit these days, bones are getting older. However I travelled many of the great tracks of australia including the Canning Stock Route. We've mainly had toyota's but did the Canning in a Land Rover Defender. The ultimate 4x4 provided you don't get a lemon. Nothing much to be done to them.

I was at the Rock the year before Azaria Chamberlain and the dingos were pretty brave then, and in better condition than they seemed in later years when we visited. Same with Katherine.

I personally think we have chased off all the dingos food and they are staving to death hence why they are thru necessity getting braver. Would I venture far from camp by myself, no because that's just being stupid. Would I leave a young child unattended out of site, no because that's just stupid. But nothing would stop me (except now I have too many dogs at home to have looked after) from seeing some of the more remote areas of Australia.

Aw I love my Rav, don't know if I would be game enough to take her 4WDing though... I would have to learn how to do the dials and what not first (really sounding like a dumb girl now )
