Thread: Victoria's standard for restricted breed dogs

They can take amstaff, staffy, boxer, lab, viszla, bullmastiff, american bull dog, aussie bulldog, bullterrier, cane corso, rottweiler, GSP, Kelpie, airdale, what ever they want X's as they are innumerable mixed breeds. This crap "standard" is about phenotype, and fitting dogs up to it, any number of dogs can fit a phenotype of a PB X or even pure breeding of it.

It's insanity created by a corgi breeder 'breed judge', a f-wit "authorised person", and an AVA official and vet who went against the very policy they signed up with. which and has led to the death of dogs all due to a look not due to dangerous action nor even breed.

    Grrrr.

I'll tell you what makes me 'mad V&F' (oh hell, it's Jo)...

It's getting the message out there. Rally's were run in both Melb and Sydney. Though the turnouts were pleasing, in another way the numbers were gut wrenchingly disappointing. The people who made excuses not to come. The people who weren't interested 'cause it's a PitBull thing', the people who weren't interested 'because it doesn't impact them'.

Well, we keep shouting from the rooftops. When will people begin to listen and understand that our passion is for creating a legislation that really does protect the community, and will reduce bite incidents. Until people start listening, and realizing it could impact them, then innocent dogs will continue to die.

Until dog owners stand together to support each other, until dog owners get the message that it can impact them, or a friend, or a neighbor, a loved on, and get BEYOND the breed, innocent dogs will continue to die.

Until the message is heard by the majority, attacks, bites, maulings and homicides by dogs will continue.
Until the legislation is challenged by the majority, community safety will not increase
Until the majority stand together as one innocent family pets will continue to die.

We MUST take this beyond breed and focus on the legislative flaws: specifically how it fails our community.

So glad I don't live in Victoria any more. Oskar is an AMstaff x and would be seized just purely on appearance. What is the country coming to?

Unfortunately Jo, most people can't see beyond their own noses.
He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

End of the day it is not about the breed or what it looks like
How can you not see the facts that BAD OWNERS must be punished.
I read it more than once about BSL in other countries did not work.
This law kills more innocent dogs than putting bad owners in JAIL -
there are some great stories in other countries and ABKC about bad
owners and their dogs, that their dogs are rehabilitated and was given
second chance to be re homed.

Government should review this legislation and one thing I will suggest
toughen up laws with BYB and bad owners - and more funding to owner education and dog rehabilitation.

You are right D-Dog. And if it weren't for the dogs, I'd have given up already.

I want to shout at people- 'when a restricted breed dog is any dog over 5kg and taller than 20cm at the shoulder, will you listen then? Will it impact you then? Will you actually open you eyes then?'

But I don't because as mymatejack has said before; there are many folks out there who are simply innocently unaware.

Thing is if we all came together , ALL dog owners/lovers , then there would be no people unaware.
