    UPDATE

Both dogs are off to get Assisted Insemination on Wednesday..
Apparently this can be common for a female to not except a
male especially when a female is spoilt (which she is)
So basically they collect the semen from the male and then insert
    into the female..

And they collect the sperm manually

I spoke to a breeder and both dogs need assistance..
Told me to help the male up and on and guide his penis in..
I can't do it so the vet will be..

So fingers crossed all goes well

Haha wow, breeding these large dogs gets you right in there with the action

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

    OMG
We tried to assist them the other night and I just
couldn't bring myself to help guide it in..
My Husband goes, quick just guide it quick..

Think I'll leave that part to the experts

Haha I would of said "How about you help guide it in"

I'd be off to the vets too... let them do all the dirty work

This thread reminds me of my nightclubbing years ....Fussy females who wont play the game ,frustration and in the end just giving up and doing it manually.

Sean - what Natty Lou said.

It needs to be on her terms. If he is too pushy she will get sick of him very quickly. If she really sours of his attention she wight not want to know him even at peak fertility so make sure she has her space and you keep him on a lead around her to minimise harassment.
Horny males have no self control and it seems human females are not the only ones put off.

So I know not much about breeding except that a bunch of genetic compatibility tests ought to be done first, and the breeder ought to have homes lined up for any potential puppies - before mating. IE the RSPCA responsible breeder list.

And that this place is the best australian website for all things whelping.

I like Newfsie's idea of talking to breeders of giants that you're not in competiton with, and maybe DDB breeders that previously had dogs from your mentor - because - theoretically you wouldn't be in direct competition with them either. Or maybe the opposite - not those but anyone else? Though my experience is that people become fans of a particular line (eg agility or herding border collies) and they all support each other because if one looks good, they all look good. I'm surprised the DDB people don't get that.

ok I am totally confused now..
Just checked my girl and she is dripping blood..

I have changed AI appointment to today as we haven't got a lot of
    time here..

She got up out of her bed with her tail between her legs like she is ashamed.
During the days I have counted she never really dripped blood. Her vulva was just
dirty looking and we presumed it was dry blood as I noticed yesterday it's all clean..
    Now today she's dripping blood.

Like I said earlier we called another breeder that has 30 pairs imported of this breed
and they said they rarely have to assist nothing further than that..

Little heartbreaking when things just don't go to plan...
I am calling the AI doctor to discuss this before we head in today..
