Thread: Bitch due to have pups? (unexpected complications which may arise)

I have a solid white dog and he's a healthy as a horse.

In some breeds whites can be more prone to things like deafness. And in other breeds certain colors (like blue in Staffies) they can be more prone to skin infections, but I wouldn't let him being white turn you off keeping him.

Heck, if just being white makes you more prone to skin cancer then my hairless dog is screwed.

Well it's not the wound re opened its a few abscess on her belly the vet lanced them and said they are infected so back on antibiotics and she has to stay inside pretty much all the time with one of those plastic collars on to stop her licking
She is not impressed with the collar at all!!!

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

In the movie "Up", the pack leader calls it "the cone of shame" and makes other dogs wear it as a punishment.

They're all so cute! And other potential owners lined up? And what did you decide about the father's owner taking one?

I knew a white cat who had to have the tops of his ears amputate because of cancer. Friends of mine have a JRT cross that has a white nose and a bald spot with pink skin. They were talking about getting the spot tattooed to avoid sun damage.

Nearly as good as the white dogs comment. Yes watch pink skin for sunburn, and check for deafness if the ears lack pigment, but there's no reason for them to lead shorter lives when cared for properly, what a crock.

Pups look great btw. Hope Tip's belly clears up soon!!

Purple spray is my saviour, luckily my dogs are black, cannot see it....Best for hotspots and Tessa's neck injury ( it was severe and required lots of surgery) is sprayed at least once a day with it, also best stuff to keep off flies. though we do not seem to have many this year. Where are all the flies???????..........It is not too good for light coloured walls though I alternate with Betadine spray and the purple spray...Both from my horse kit.
My vet said it was fine to use, mind you he is very sensible and tries to keep things at the cheap end.

The good ol purple spray has been a part of the dog first aid kit for yonks.

My dogs also have lots of white, have fine coats, pink skin just above the nose and are prolific sunbakers yet I have not as yet ever seen them with sunburn, they seem to know just the right time to move out of the sun.
