So sorry Tips is struggling so much, Liss. I hope she's a bit better today and that your vet will have a solution.

Did they mean desexing or a hysterectomy?

So im waiting for our vet to open here the vets at emergancy said they will contact our vet and urge them to desex her this morning, the vets there also said that its possible she has had this infection since before birthing, and that could be why she struggled so much with birthing and there was so much time in between the pups being born.
They said waiting till the pups are weaned is not a option as this infection is really bad and whilever its there she cant produce milk for them properly and there is a big risk it could go septic at any time and spread to the rest of her body
Fingers and puppy paws crossed and wishing you all of our good lucks !! Hope she pulls through OK.

They said $3600 to get her uterus out cause thats where the infection is i guess thats a hysterectomy then i am not aware of what they do to desex bitches?
Thats the same quote we were given for her c section to get the pups out(ended up going up a fair bit tho) i asked them then and there to desex her but they said it was too risky and yet here we are now
I dont know how much my vet is going to say this morning but im sure it will be alot lower or i bloody hope so!!
A normal vet charges $800 to $1200 for a c section i was told when i asked shows how much more the emergancy vets charge at night/public holidays

OMG you poor thing and poor Tips. I hope everything goes well for you, her and the pups.

It's shocking what vets will charge and I don't care that they are basically specialists in every area. This is an op they would have done before or should of done before and they should not charge for risk.

A good breeder vet is worth their weight in gold, finding one is like finding a needle in a haystack though.

All my fingers and toes are crossed for you all.

Been waiting an hour for the vet to get back to me on what we are going to do if he dosnt ring in the next 15min ill be taking her to the clinic and he will have to deal with it then and there
Her breathing has now gone the other way and decreased and is way too slow IMO and the fever is still raging
She wont drink/eat and wont get up now either
A person can only take so much shit coming their way and if the vets slow response puts her in any more danger im going to explode!!

Generally the female sterilisation process IS taking out the uterus and ovaries and everything. At least that's the way it has been in the 3 clinics I have worked in.

so she will be going into sugery at 3 this arvo and it should take about 2 hours they will ring me and let me know how she went the vet explained to me that this is very risky for her but so is not doing anything we felt like we had no choice but to go ahead,it toke so long to get it all moving today cause of our money (or lack of would be a better word!)as i had to arrange VetPay finance to be able to pay for this
