Also the vet said to watch out for milk fever and to keep the milk formula up to her (im doing that) he said they get it from low calcium now she's having the milk and chicken mince and some puppy dry food we are feeding her 4 times a day should I go get a calcium supplement for her?

Much better, it's just safer with a box, as the pups start crawling around you can also have half blanket and half newspaper so they automatically start toilet training themselves not to go on their bedding. In a week or so you will want to make a taller box as they will just crawl out of that one, but it's certainly a good start.

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but I'll point this out for future readers... It's important to do your research before the dog whelps so you know what you need after the pups have arrived. A whlping box is an important tool and they aren't hard to make yourself.
We preffer this type with a rail, the rail is a great feature as if the bitch lays down she cannot squash a pup against the side, the pup will the pushed safely under the rail.

Important to note though, that pigrails are great and can reduce incidents of squashing, they are not a fail safe. Especially with larger breeds who have proportionally smaller pups. Vigilance is vital, and accidents do happen, despite all attempts to avoid them.

Sorry Liss, missed your calcium post. It sounds like she has plenty at the moment. The beauty of the mince is the ground bone that's part of it, which is great calcium, and readily absorbed.

Thanks mitte but we had another bad night we lost another pup same way as before she layed on it while I was getting some sleep I'm so cranky with myself!! She is getting up more now to drink and eat as she pleases as I just have food/water there for her all the time and that's what she's done and layed on a pup she even does it when I'm there with her she can have one under her and it's squealing but she dosnt respond or move to the cry is this cause it's her first litter or is it just that she has so many pups to watch and look after?

Aw not again! poor little darling! There is nothing you can do about it though so dont beat yourself up as you need rest as well! Sometimes these things just happen no matter what you do.

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.
