Thread: Newbie Cocker Spaniel Owner- WANT TO BECOME A BREEDER!!!

Why don't you just give up the idea of breeding her and have her as a pet?
If you still want to breed, make it easier on yourself and get another dog, with papers and set about a breeding program then.
This situation is far too messy. If the other owner won't paper her, I assume he would expect her to be desexed.

    Here's my suggestion, for what it's worth;

Don't breed your dog. For one it would be starting your career in breeding off on the wrong foot as the registration bodies frown on breeding not done between papered parents. You'd be putting a black mark against you name before you even started. Secondly, such a confusing story should make you wary about the intentions/agendas of others. I'm NOT saying they're bad people, but even you admit that they're not really helping you in a proper, supportive way, yes?

Next; get out to as many shows as possible and immerse yourself in the breed. Get to know as many breeders as you can, and when you find one you really like/ trust who has terrific dogs, maybe find out if you can be involved in a breeding. What I mean is; follow the selection of sire for bitch, find out if you can see the mating, find out if you can be helpful during the pregnancy,
birthing and raising of puppies. A good breeder who understands your interests and goals (if you're respectful ect) will really try to help you get an insiders persepective!!

    Good Luck.

Where have I said anything insulting to you???

I have provided you links to the ANKC code of ethics to help you understand the rules breeders must follow.
I have given information about why people show and how to determine a quality dog.

What do you want us to say, just spell it out.
Would you like us to give you a big pat on the back for coming here first saying you want to do a BYB litter?
Should we not have told you about the ethics of breeding?
Did you not want constructive criticism at all?

Sweetheart, if you throw a tantrum every time someone tells you how to do something you aren't going to get very far in life.

    Do you have a job?
Do you do your very best at that job?
Has your boss ever told you to do something better?
Well that is what we TRIED to do here, just tell you how to do things the RIGHT way.

But I see you have no interest in hearing how breeding is done ethically and responsibly so you know what.... just go ahead and do it. Obviously you are dead set on doing it so what is the point in us trying to tell you otherwise.

EDIT - V&F I think we covered those points in page one. By telling her not to breed now and to attend dog shows and learn we were apparently abusing her.

Thank you very much, you are a very helpful, understanding person and i am grateful. they are very good ideas, i will certainly look into beginning to attend shows... cant say i would be into being the one to show them to be honest, id love to watch my own dogs being shown though, oh that would be wonderful.

just want to leave you a pic of my beautiful girl after that, not so wonderful thread... and sorry if i offended anyone it was never my intention.

I didn't see it end, I saw you say you got no good information here and was abused... I am entitled to defend myself against that accusation.

Well gee, gosh Crested, I'm so sorry for being redundant. I find sometimes people need to process information and sometimes it takes a little time to do that. Wouldn't it just be so darned awful if the decision was made now not to breed just because I reiterated an already made point at a good time?

No bloody wonder I left. Why on earth did I bother returning?

    Leave you lot to it.

I'm banging my head on the desk right now...

Just goes to show you really didn't read the original information. You were already told this.
