With respect, I can never understand why people take on a pet without means to support them. This dog may have had a stuck pup, need a Caesar at about $2000 worth? Die if it wasn't done? There may or may not be a problem now?
The pups will need worming, they may need hand feeding, lots of expenses.

I sincerely hope that all goes well and help is not needed or it will be the bitch and/or pups that suffer. Are you feeding her an enriched diet? Can you ring around and find a vet who will give you the option of a payment plan?

I have taken on a pregnant dog and raised the litter too so I do know how expensive it can be.

I'd take her to the vet anyway.

And I wouldn't mention anything about when you're going to pay, worry about it after they've checked her.

If you're getting paid you can sort it then or you could go to someone like cash converters, GE money or even a bank for a credit card...

Naughty I know but Cleo could have internal injuries.

I actually totally forget about credit card! My partner and I never use it, I can't believe I forgot! Thank you so much for suggesting that! The vet knows I don't have the money to pay upfront, as I called and asked if they do accounts...

Di Dee1! We took her on not knowing she was pregnant. We have only had her 3 weeks. And we HAVE taken her to the vet just last week and had to pay it upfront because they don't offer accounts. I can't get her to another vet.
The previous owner treated her like ****. We treated ridiculously bad fleas, we've been feeding her a massive enriched raw diet because she was malnourished, she had a severe yeast infection in her ears which we've been treated with medicine from the vet... she had an xray done so we knew how many pups to expect in the case one got stuck so we would know, we got a worming treatment for her, and we bought her premium dog food because the vet recommended puppy food for her since she is pregnant... and now only a week later she's had her litter...

I'm sorry if that's an inadequate effort to you, but we're normal people that pay rent and bills, and it just so happens all our bills came at once and at the worst time none the less...
I am doing the best I can, and seeking help in all the appropriate places.

I am asking helpful advice from people I know have way more experience than me... give me some credit. I am not neglecting my dog, I love her with all my heart.

I have barely slept in three days, sick with worry, and trying to give these pups the best shot at life. And you flame me like that....

Not flaming you at all. Just wondering if you do in fact know what you are in for and are prepared for that. I too learned on the job and was horrified with the little I knew when I also took on a bitch who was due to whelp.
If you want to see flaming look in my thread when I first got here, lol.
It DOES take money or access to some when you take on a dog, pregnant or not as expenses do occur. Many save for a vet fund, others choose pet insurance just for situations like you have found yourself in. Many also do not take on the responsibility of a pet till they are financially able to. Bills coming crashingly in is also a fact of life.

Di_dee (hi, long time no see). Being Lollen's big sister I can tell you that she did have money there for Cleo. Unfortunately this fund was used last week getting everything done at her vet check due to the previous owners lack of care.

Expecting to get one dog and then to find out you've been dealt ten is a pretty big shock and not one most people would be prepared for.

Please know that this dog is her world.

    Hi Megan.

Lollen, I gave you the link to my diary thread in another of your threads and I think the birth is about page 8. I knew NOTHING..repeat NOTHING. I had lots of advice in it and I did the thread for exactly your reason. So that anyone coming after me would have some great information. Your choice whether to read it or not. I also stuffed up and lost 2 pups. The vet, with an ultrasound told me she was having 2 pups. She had 7, 1 premi which is why I am so concerned now that your bitch is " off"

    How mum dog going???
I'm hoping you guys managed to get to a vet but either way I have some suggestions that may or may not help. I am not a vet but am exsperainced with breeding many different animals & worked as a vet nurse many moons ago(so may not be as up to date as some others) & know a little about mum dogs & pups.
Did she really get a chance to nest at all, she may just be unhappy with where she is?
Have you taken her temp? If it is high she may have retained some afterbirth & have an infection. What colour is the blood she's bleeding now? How much is she bleeding now? Is she feeding well when your there? Whats her milk like, still colostrum or is it getting thicker & whiter? What are her gums looking like, are they nice & bright & have strong colour or wish washy light pink? When you palpate her uterous by pushing on her belly dose she reacted strongly or just discomfort? Did you see every single afterbirth? Has the bitch tolieted yet if so how'd that go?
Sorry it's hard to say much untill you answer my questions. I hope she has already started to settle though wether your've been to the vet or not please let us know how she is going.
    Good luck.

Ok thanks Di Dee, I am very tired so, I am sorry for snapping. I just don't need people saying stuff like that to me right now.
