  1. #1

    Default Tenterfeild Terrier........

What is the general opinion are they min foxies or their own breed.
I know a lady that breed them 30 yrs ago & called them mini foxies & now still breed with some of the smae line but calls the tenerfeilds.

I would just like to say I have no vested interested in this breed or the website linked to also. I have added many links to this world dog website as I enjoyed reading it not for any other reason.
As far as the breed goes I have heard many differeing opinions on it, I was just curious what forum members thought or even better if someone had personal exsperaince with them.

Theres two tenterfields that come to my dog obedience class, and they're both gorgeous. And smart. I've got no idea what the difference is between a tenterfield and a mini fox terrier is but the owners seem to know.

I can't tell a manchester terrier from a minature pinscher either.

I am with you there about telling some apart & also like you I've noticed their owners certainly do.
A freinds dad had a pair he swore by as ratters & snake killers, he reakon they where too fast & wanted to kill the snake way too bad to get bite, lol. They where a cute but very serous pair.

The only difference I've noticed is the Foxy has a long square muzzle with button ears, while the Tenty's have a short round muzzle(like a JRT) and pointy ears.

The only one I have dealt with hands on was a young tri-colour dog, it looked like a slightly leaner version of a mini foxy

Mind you, most of the mini foxies we got were older animals & tended to be on the stocky/plumper side of life

It was chipped & registered as a tenterfield, but I realise that the person entering the data can only go by what breeding papers state & or what the owner states. Otherwise it's a bit of a guessing game.

yes I think they are over all a leaner type dog & their ears are bigger & pointy but then I have seen stocky 1's with reg also.
Given time they will seperate the breeds more & more in type I'd say.
Very switched on little guys from what limited knowledge I have of them.

They're a rare breed are they Newfsie?
We have quite a few Tenty patients, but I spose they could be just some Terrier mix breed and people call them Tenterfields.
We actually had a member who had a Tenterfield and she was quite a handful!
