Ring the vet and make a time for them to visit you, explain you think a placenta has been retained. If it was me I'd prefer to leave her settled as long as possible and take the last appointment in the afternoon.

My girls have all been fine with the vet visiting their puppies, they are the over friendly types though.

6 puppies, a nice number for a large breed to handle. She should sail thru this easily without any help.

I'm sure you read up on all the normal things to look for, like is mum stimulating them so they can toilet, are they fat and quiet between feeds etc.

Glad it all went smoothly, just check in from time to time, look for any signs that the placenta may have passed, she may still eat it to keep the puppy box clean and I'd still monitor if she goes for a toilet break.

I give my mums meat and leave a constant supply of biscuits and water in the room with them.

8 puppies is still a nice size for a large breed, my GS was from a litter of 13 and my 11kg whippet supported 7 pups.
