Thread: Long Haired German Shepherd

    Default Long Haired German Shepherd

    Hi

I'm not a breeder however I am desperately seeking a breeder who has long haired shepherds. I have found it very difficult to find a breeder that has them at all let alone one that specifically focuses on this feature. I would love to have a shepherd as a new member of our family however my partner specifically preferred the look of the long haired Shepherds.

Any help to put me in contact with a breeder would be happily welcomed.

    Thanks

Have you tried contacting breed clubs in your state or the applicable state association?

Sometimes contacting one or two registered GSD breeders in your state can point you in the right direction. They all tend to know each other, or know of each other, and if there are long haired Shepherds out there they may be able to advise you of whom and where.

    Hi

Thank you all for your helpful information I have found my local club to be a very good source as they have a specific page for local breeders to advertise. Your time and effort taken to reply to my post has been much appreciated.

    Default Long Haired German Shepherd

    Hi Rachael,
I am also looking for a long haired German Shepherd. Did you have any luck.
Could you let me know who breeds them. I am in QLD, but would travel to NSW.
    Kind regards

Its because before it was never a desirable trait, and the dogs were not able to be registered for breeding. Its only now they can be

You should never aim for a breeder that focuses on one distinct trait, that can sometimes mean comprimising on other things like conformation, health or temperament. Just remember a long coat needs a lot of work. Why don't you look into a Belgian Tervuren or Groenendal? Still a shepherd breed but has a more consistent coat.
